When friends have babies - there anything better? Welcome to the world, Miss Cecilia!
Have you ever met anyone who was just so effortlessly cool? That's Dave + Barrett. And I'm pretty thankful and oh em gee excited that they are trusting me to capture their September wedding at Paikka in MPLS. And I swear, if they ever start a band, they have *many* images from their engagement session that would make pretty awesome record covers. Just sayin.
I never really felt any pull to check out DC before. But this past election season, all Addie would talk about was Trump and his orange hair and debates and "what is a president?" So, a quick spring break trip to DC was in store. Though we were only there for 2 full days, we packed a ton in and I'm continually proud of Addie and her little legs for keeping up and walking miles upon miles per day only to get her third wind for hours in the hotel pool after. She is a trooper, and even snoozed in the car while Jon patiently drove the cobble streets of Georgetown so I could hop out every 3 minutes to get yet another picture of a row house and a blooming tree ;) Suffice to say, I feel in love with DC + the architecture + history + even though I was on the hunt for cherry blossoms I was BOWLED OVER with the pink saucer magnolia trees and felt like I had died and gone to heaven.
One of the best parts of traveling with a kiddo is seeing what they see. Addie has been using her nikon cam since she turned 4 and it is so awesome as a photographer to see her love snapping just as much as I do. I can't wait to put together albums of the pictures she has taken over the last 3 years.
DC you get a thumbs up!
I've said it once, I'll say it again: give me all the courthouse weddings. Justin + Alex had the sweetest, most understated wedding ceremony in downtown Minneapolis, on an atrium catwalk, surrounded by loving family. It was simple in the most logistical terms, but not as far as emotion. Sometimes stripping things down to their most essential components (J + A + LOVE) means having to only remember the feeling about your day, not the color of the napkins or if all the bridesmaids dresses coordinate.
It is always an honor to capture a wedding, but it seems especially special when I am just one of a handful who get to see that union first hand <3
I am so lucky that not only do I get to capture some of the most beautiful, love filled weddings of super sweet couples, but I am often invited back into their lives for other exciting milestones - LIKE BABIES! Queue all the heart eyes when J + A asked me to come over to snuggle this sweet angel baby and, oh yeah, take some pictures too. I absolutely adore in home sessions, especially with new babes. I remember the first few days at home with my own peanut and it is so special to be a witness to a new family "getting their sea legs" and finding a new groove with such an awesome little one.
Cheers to exciting new beginnings and the most overwhelmingly fun adventure yet! Love you guys!
There is something about the history of Stillwater that makes it the perfect backdrop for a couples session, especially in the winter. Thanks to T+P for cuddling up and scouting the alleys and bluffs of one of my favorite Minnesota cities for their couples session. Cheers + cant wait until September!
Seth and Shannon are as outdoorsy as they come - so it was no surprise that they wanted their engagement session outside, in the elements, with Luca as their side kick. We trudged through snow, over ice covered rivers, under tall white pines with wine + blankets in hand. It was cold, they were brave, and it was so much fun. Thank you Seth and Shanny - one of my near and dear friends - for having me capture these moments for you!
If you live in Minneapolis, chances are you've spotted the Basilica reigning high above Loring Park and standing proud next to the city skyline. Its a beauty of a church, and one that I have wanted to step foot in for for eh ver. Chauncy and Tricia managed to pick maybe THE COLDEST day in all of winter 2017/2018 but we were so cozy inside this architectural masterpiece it took our minds off our freezing feet+hands+ears from pictures we took out on the front steps. A big high five for the best group of bridesmaids who toughed it out standing in the biting cold wind for the most beautiful shots of them supporting their girl, Tricia.
A quick stop at Twin Spirits Distillery which is a place near and dear to C + T for some cocktails was needed, followed by a family filled dinner + dance at Silverwood Park. A little tip for any of you potential toast makers out there; reading excerpts from the brides diary is always a good idea - I was in literal tears from laughing so hard. Enjoy :)
I always encourage my couples to think about places that are near and dear to them to incorporate into their engagement session. AND I was elated that Chauncy and Tricia wanted to include on of their favorite spots for local brew - Indeed Brewing in Northeast Minneapolis. It might've been the first freezing day in Minneapolis in November (and also foreshadowed their 0* wedding day come January!) but we pulled it off. Nothing that a couple of beers and shuffleboard cant fix ;)
