Nick & Cally // Semple Mansion Wedding // Minneapolis by ASHLEY GROTH

I knew when I met Nick and Cally in uptown for coffee that they would be a fabbuulloouuusss couple to connect with. Cally is beautiful, down to earth, and as classy as they come; Nick is creative, easy going and comfortable. Together they make such a vibrant, laid back pair--a combo kinda tough to come by ;)

An April wedding can bring unpredictable weather but we lucked out having a partly cloudy, warm day with a breeze. Nick and Cally's wedding party were silly and up for anything (including an Anchorman-style jump); and the Semple Mansion in Minneapolis was the perfect venue. Modern, simple touches meets old school glamour. Insider tip: use white washed stairwells for the first look! So dreamy :)

Joe & Emily by ASHLEY GROTH

What's better than a late summer, moody cabin wedding in Northern Minnesota? Not much!

Joe and Emily got married on a rocky island shore in the middle of massive Lake Vermilion in Cook, MN. Their family cabin is nestled at the very top of the island; dense with ponderosa pine, evergreens and more pine cones and moss than you could ever imagine. The breeze was perfect and the sky was moody and threatening, but the entire day went unscathed. After the ceremony and short boat ride to the shore, Joe and Emily met more friends and family at Elbow Lake Lodge for a blessing and reception. I was so happy to have had the opportunity to capture such an intimate day in the epitome of what Minnesota looks like when I close my eyes.

A big thanks to Joe, Emily (a stunning vision! The camera loves you, Emily), their gracious and welcoming families, and Winston--the most dapper fellow in attendance, besides the handsome and photogenic groom of course). And if you're looking for a place to vacation,  its an easy trek to Elbow Lake Lodge. You wont regret it!

Look for Winston wearing a bow tie and sporting four legs :)

Louisa & Giscard by ASHLEY GROTH

Weddings are my absolute favorite things to witness--as the photographer or not. It sounds so trite to say that its because you can feel the love, but... you can FEEL THE LOVE. The giddy excitement in the brides dressing room and the happy nerves in the the tizzy whirlwind until the "I Do's" and then..the sigh. Of relief. The hardest part is over, and the shift that happens is magical. Drinks are flowing and laughter echoes as people take their seats for dinner. And then when I lose it every time: The Toasts. I am always impressed with peoples ability to speak of their love and admiration of someone--filled with silly stories and memories that give you a little peak into the independent parts of the happy couple. And its usually in those speeches where it becomes so CLEAR as to why those two are teaming up for a lifetime together.

Two things stood out to me from Louisa and Giscard's wedding toasts this past February. After Louisa's dad spoke,  I saw Louisa's heart. Her dad told stories that reflected her genuine interest in others; he was funny and honest and proud. And then Giscard's toast to his beautiful wife;  where he told of the look he receives from Louisa when he comes home is the same look he gets from his mother when she picks him up the airport on the other side of the world. Sigh. It was poetic in all the best ways, and so beautifully portrayed their love and admiration for each other.

Now onto my favorite pictures from that day--I'm warning you..after seeing these you're going to want to plan your wedding/vow renewal/anniversary/birthday party/girls trip/any-excuse get-a-way to Isla Mujeres, Mexico.

A HUGE thank you to Jen Meneghin Photography for giving me the opportunity to second shoot this wedding in paradise, and big up's to the bride and groom for being so dang cool and glamorous! Go make yourself a margarita on the rocks, put on a sundress or board shorts, and THEN check out these images. You'll believe you're right there soaking up that island sun :)

Rachel & Miles by ASHLEY GROTH

You know when you think back to your childhood and you have all these memories from a significant chunk of time in your life, and there is usually one or two people that ALWAYS come to mind, outside of your immediate family?

For me, that "significant chunk of time" was hours entertaining myself at various arenas across the state for my brothers hockey games, tournaments, scrimmages, and practices. And Rachel was one of those people that always come to mind. See, the "sisters of the hockey players" was like a secret club. We had to make our own fun, zipping around in deserted bathrooms and hallways, stopping by the concession stand where at least ONE parent we knew was working to slip us a bite or two of a pretzel with cheese to keep us fueled. And off we ran.

So when Rachel asked me about taking some engagement pictures for her and Miles, I was BEYOND excited. I hadn't seen Rachel in years and when we met up she was still the same tall, sweet, genuine girl with the most infectious laugh that I remember from all those years running around. Rachel and Miles were so easy around each other, and you can really feel that love through these images.

Here are some of my favorite from our session! Can't wait for the wedding that is sure to be a stunner!
