That One Time I Fell In Love With Washington DC // A Personal post by ASHLEY GROTH

I never really felt any pull to check out DC before. But this past election season, all Addie would talk about was Trump and his orange hair and debates and "what is a president?" So, a quick spring break trip to DC was in store. Though we were only there for 2 full days, we packed a ton in and I'm continually proud of Addie and her little legs for keeping up and walking miles upon miles per day only to get her third wind for hours in the hotel pool after. She is a trooper, and even snoozed in the car while Jon patiently drove the cobble streets of Georgetown so I could hop out every 3 minutes to get yet another picture of a row house and a blooming tree ;) Suffice to say, I feel in love with DC + the architecture + history + even though I was on the hunt for cherry blossoms I was BOWLED OVER with the pink saucer magnolia trees and felt like I had died and gone to heaven.

One of the best parts of traveling with a kiddo is seeing what they see. Addie has been using her nikon cam since she turned 4 and it is so awesome as a photographer to see her love snapping just as much as I do. I can't wait to put together albums of the pictures she has taken over the last 3 years.

DC you get a thumbs up!

P Family // Minneapolis + St Paul Lifestyle Photography by ASHLEY GROTH

To say that I love photographing this family is a huge understatement. On a whim, they took me up on a last minute offer to squeeze in a family session on a freezing Friday evening in November just before the first snow hit the cities. And I am SO GLAD they did!

Family sessions can be tough--for the ones getting their picture taken. There's pressure making sure everyone is dressed and hair is combed and smiling their best smiles--its hard, I know. But being the one taking the picture, I get to see those moments that you guys cant; the ones with wind blown hair and side eyes from the kiddos and you running around trying to wrangle everyone--THOSE are the pictures that you want, those are the memories that you want captured because that's all real, authentic life my friends.

I always try and tell my families during their session...relax! Pretend I'm not there! Rest assured you will LOVE your photos, just be you! In whatever crazy way that happens to be.

Thank you again P Family, for trusting me with your memories!

xoxo

"You'll Shoot Yer Eye Out!" by ASHLEY GROTH

Julie always has the best ideas for holiday cards, so I was super amped when she came to me with her idea last fall. "A Christmas Story."

Now, its a tradition near and dear to my heart that {most} Christmases growing up were spent nibbling on an array of holiday appetizers, scratching off loto-tickets, driving around looking at Christmas lights in ritzy neighborhoods (and also getting to peep inside those homes since, of course, all lights inside were on and all drapes were left open ; ) opening presents, and then finally settling in to watch "A Christmas Story." I laughed and laughed when Randy ate his dinner like a little piggy, loved the curmudgeon dad, and might've had a little crush on Flick. And..that bunny suit!

Please enjoy a few of my most favorite images from our quick, freezing, late-fall session off Lake Street in Minneapolis; complete with the Chow Mein restaurant. So perfect and fitting! Julie has such a good eye, and I'm reminded every time I see these images how lucky I am to be able to work with such creative people.

Enjoy! And don't shoot yer eye out ; )
